One of my resolutions this year is to become better at playing more complicated rhythms on guitar & singing at the same time.

I am not a professional guitarist and have never had anything more than the basic classical guitar class at my college, and although I have quite a bit of singing training (mostly classical as well), I know that I have to really work on my confidence when singing and not holding back.

This is an Alice in Chains cover, of the song “nutshell.” I did not write it.

This song is way too low for my voice (I am a soprano), so I have like 8 recordings of me experimenting with different things (some of them are REALLY funny because I can never seem to get the guitar to match up with the voice just right).

I think I’ll try a new version in about a week, with a capo, so it will sound better, but here’s a starting point!

P.S. This was recorded with this wonderful little doo-hickey (the Tascam dr-05).  It is really inexpensive, makes pretty decent recordings for someone who is incredibly impatient about just getting stuff done. Small enough to fit in my purse, and records basically with the click of a button (although, there are more complicated settings which I haven’t explored yet)

(a far cry from the BOSS BR-8 I used to record with)
